EVOKING THE SENSES

A Multi-Venue FlatFile Exhibition & Online Program Series

December 12, 2020 – February 20, 2021

Touch, Taste, Sight, Smell, and Sound - this winter Transformer is Evoking the Senses in collaboration with more than 50 artists and special guests to recharge, reconnect, and re-energize people with their senses as we head into a new year.

Centered around Transformer’s ever-evolving FlatFile programEvoking the Senses features a rotating display of artworks presented within Transformer’s storefront and SMUDGE: a two-day in-person exhibition at the now ‘empty’ home/studio of artists, Amy Hughes Braden & Alex Braden. Additionally, multiple layers of artist-driven projects and events are presented online throughout this winter.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Designed to spark inspiration, imagination and hope, Evoking the Senses introduces and highlights a new roster of artists & artworks within Transformer’s FlatFile program, reflecting a diversity of artistic backgrounds, aesthetics and creative practices. Online programming features FlatFile artists, collectors, and special guest collaborators from a broad range of creative fields, each ‘evoking the senses’ through innovative and playful ways as they reference and respond to FlatFile artworks. Audiences are invited to participate in virtual studio visits, video cooking & cocktail sessions, spiritual and meditative practices, and more, while also receiving artist designed music playlists, reading lists, recipes and the like - all reflecting artwork from Transformer’s FlatFile program. New FlatFile artists and artworks will be announced and featured weekly through mid-February 2021.

INSTALLATIONS

STOREFRONT INSTALLATION
AT TRANSFORMER

1404 P St NW, Washington, DC 20005

A sensory winter wonderland of FlatFile works rotating bi-weekly in Transformer's storefront window through February 27, 2021.

SMUDGE
1319 Shepherd Street NE, Washington, DC 20017

Artists Amy Hughes Braden and Alex Braden present a two-day pop-up show from December 12-13, 2020 in their empty home on the occasion of leaving it. Exhuming their own ghosts, invoking echoes, gathering remnants, and with windows open – quite literally airing out the space – SMUDGE senses the presence of past and future inhabitants and wonders if time is tenseless. Amy Hughes Braden presents new blobs, flat and in the round upstairs, while Alex Braden creates a sound installation for the down.
