Transformer invites you to Collector’s View 2010, our 3rd annual spring series of special receptions viewing the private collections of a select and diverse group of DC's leading contemporary art collectors.
Through the generosity of our Collector’s View hosts, and with the sponsorship support of Washington Life Magazine, this series highlights the relationship collectors have with artists, the role they play in building artists’ careers, and their impact in supporting healthy arts communities. Guests will be privy to learn, from an insider’s perspective, the motivations, interests and passions of these dynamic collectors on the work they collect.
Each View in the series promises to be as unique as the collectors and collections themselves – with personal anecdotes on how certain works were acquired, how collections have been shaped, and which artists the collectors are currently considering. Light fare and libations will be served at each event.
Participation in Collector’s View 2010 is $50 dollars per person for each View. Advance registration with Transformer is required for all Views in Collector’s View 2010. All donations via Collector's View 2010 are fully tax-deductible, and will directly benefit Transformer's 2010 / 2011 Exhibition Series and related programs.
HOSTS | COLLECTOR’S VIEW 2010
VIEW 1: MIRELLA & DANI LEVINAS
Sunday, March 21, 2010; 4 – 6pm
Georgetown, DC
Long-time contemporary art collectors, Mirella and Dani Levinas open their beautiful home to share their very personal international collection. With a strong concentration in Latin American art, the collection includes contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, and video by established living artists and young and emerging artists, such as: Cildo Meireles, Waltercio Caldas, Vik Muniz, Cristian Segura, José Dávila, Iván Navarro, Tunga, and Javier Arce.
VIEW 2: AIMEE & ROBERT LEHRMAN
Thursday, April 22, 2010; 6 – 8pm
Massachusetts Avenue Heights, DC
The Lehrman collection showcases a broad variety of romantic gestural paintings, including works by Philip Guston, Damien Hirst, Agnes Martin, Gerhard Richter, Wayne Thiebaud, and Andy Warhol. It also offers one of the most
comprehensive collections of the works of Joseph Cornell. The Lehrmans anticipate a lively discussion on their adventures collecting, and encourage guests to participate.

VIEW 3: JUDY PENSKI & ROBIN ROSE
Sunday, May 23, 2010; 4 – 6pm
Forest Hills, DC
Welcome to a realized vision of mid-century Modernism. Well-known artist and collector, Robin Rose and his wife, Judy have created an important statement about the collaboration of art, architecture and design. Their 1955 Trudeau-designed house showcases the work or George Nakashima, Hans Wegner and Carl Auböck. The art collection is focused primarily on DC artists from the 1960s to the present, with works by Thomas Downing, Gene Davis and Leon Berkowitz. The visual art in concert with the design collection speaks to the Roses' vision of the importance of harmony and ascension as the philosophic basis of their approach to collecting.

VIEW 4: HEATHER & TONY PODESTA
Sunday, June 13, 2010; 4 – 6pm
Kalorama, DC
The Podestas invite Collector’s View guests into their new home to see recently installed work by 16 leading contemporary women artists, including: Marina Abramovic, Margaret Benyon, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Beatriz Milhazes, Anneè Olofsson, Catherine Opie, Patricia Piccinini, Boo Ritson, Sam Taylor-Wood, Grazia Toderi, and Gillian Wearing, among others. This View is one of the first times they will be showing their new installation of photographs, paintings, and sculpture.
