ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Presented in conjunction with Transformer's 15th Annual Silent Auction & Benefit Party, this exhibition is part of Transformer’s year-long artistic exchange with Greece, presenting DC-based artists’ work at the Platforms Project - Independent Art Fair in Athens ,Spring 2018, and now highlighting Greek artists’ works in Washington, DC - both through Lappas’ storefront installation, as well as through a curated selection of works by emerging Greek artists featured in this year's Auction.
In the installation Break Time Contemplations, Lappas explores how recognizable forms from our everyday experiences can be abstracted into compositions on canvas as well as within space. Looking at the time in between work as moments of introspection during the daily routine, the artist presents a scene as viewed from a withdrawn space where the audience is invited to draw alternative narratives in a humorous way. With this piece, the artist aims to stress the importance of imagination in our daily lives.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Aristeidis Lappas (Athens, 1993) lives and work in Athens. He studies for a BA in the University of West England, Bristol, UK during which time he did an exchange program with Academia De Belle Arti, Bologna, Italy. He has exhibited his work in exhibitions such as, Athens and it’s Periphery in Regards to Contemporary Painting (Curated by Hugo Wheeler) at The Breeder, Athens, Greece (2017); Mine, Yours and Others - Curated by Eleni Papazoglou at We Are Bud, Athens Greece (2017), Interceptions - curated by Eleonora Cantini at La micro, Barcelona, Spain (2016), as well as the solo show Laughing to the Joke of the Sour Oranges (2017) - curated by Hugo Wheeler at Zoodochou Pigis 91, Athens, Greece.
